THE SECTION 8 VOUCHER AND YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT
The tenant pays approximately 30% of the adjusted household income for rent and utilities. The balance of the rent is paid directly to the owner by the Housing Authority.
Any security deposit required by the landlord must be collected from the tenant. DCHA does not pay security deposits.
The landlord is entitled to collect a security deposit from the tenant. DCHA makes no determination on the amount to be collected.
If the security deposit amount is not sufficient to cover amounts under the lease (unpaid rent/damages), the owner may seek to collect the balance from the tenant.
DCHA does not pay owner claims.
